The Ultimate Desire

de·sire
dəˈzī(ə)r/
noun
noun: desire; plural noun: desires
a strong feeling of wanting to have something or wishing for something to happen.

Desires are good. They’re actually great. The Bible tells us in Psalm 20:4, “May He grant you according to your heart’s desire, and fulfill all your purpose.”

God gives us desires and wants to fulfill them. How beautiful is that?
However, if our desires surpass The Ultimate Desire, we have a problem.

The Ultimate Desire:

“One thing I have desired of the LORD,
That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the LORD
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the LORD,
And to inquire in His temple.”
-Psalm 27:4

It’s easy my friends, real easy, to get caught up in the desires that have been placed in our hearts. However, are we laying our treasures on earthly desires, or in Heaven?

Heaven

“..they are before the throne of God, and serve Him day and night in His temple. And He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.” - Revelation 7:17-17

Heaven must be our supreme desire that trumps everything else. As we wait for The Day, we must wait patiently, with expectancy and hope of greatness being in the presence of our Savior.

Lately I’ve been finding how easy it is to stay focused on the desires that I have here on Earth. I must consistently check my heart to ensure that those desires do not become idols. It’s a daily check, where the Lord quietly reminds me of His presence. His presence is more than enough to remind me that HE is what I’m living for

Lord Jesus,
Help me to desire only You and Your dwelling place. Forgive me Lord when I get caught up in my earthly desires and forget The Ultimate Desire. May The Ultimate Desire take supreme control in my heart and mind. Help me to mediate on my future: dwelling in Your courts for eternity.

In Jesus Name.

“For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” - Psalm 84:10
